I am an artist because I must be. Creating is not simply something I do; it is the language my spirit uses when words are too small, too quiet, or too restrained to hold what I feel. My work is born from the tender, the joyful, the troubling, and the unresolved places within me. Through mixed media and ceramics, I give form to the thoughts that visit me in silence—visions of love, family, fellowship, justice, struggle, and those which lie deep within my memory At times, my hands are moved by comfort such as the beauty of connection, the warmth of community, the sacredness of family, and the quiet grace found in ordinary moments. 

At other times, I am compelled by what disturbs my peace such as racism, oppression,  war, hunger, poverty, loneliness, and the suffering of those who are too often unseen. When these realities weigh heavily on my mind and heart, I must release them into visual form. Creating allows me to breathe through what I cannot ignore. Mixed media gives me the freedom to build with texture, color, paper, fabric, paint, found objects, and anything else that speaks to the story. 

I am drawn to the layering of different types of materials because life is layered. Life is both soft and rough, bright and shadowed, and fragile and strong. I do not wish to be confined by one medium. I am only limited by the reach of my imagination. Ceramics offer me another kind of voice. Designing on clay allows my thoughts to take on structure, permanence, and pattern. Through shape, color, and design, I create pieces that can stand as entryways, framed stories, or lasting reflections of what my spirit needed to express at that particular time. I create to rest my mind, to stir my conscience, to honor beauty, and to confront pain. I create because my imagination demands movement and my heart demands expression. Each piece is a visual story, a layered conversation, and an invitation. I welcome the viewer to step closer, look deeper, and journey into the story my work has come to tell.
